Like many readers, I bought my notebook with college life in mind. I needed a laptop that will stay with me for at least four years, and I also wanted something fast and powerful. While I was playing with a Toshiba Satellite computer in my families house, the glossy screen deterred from getting anything 15.4 or larger. Once I had my criteria set up, picking a notebook was easy, since my primary choice will be non-glossy LCD types, which left me with only IBM Thinkpads and business models from HP/Compaq and Dell. After researching on many of these notebooks, I was leaning towards the Thinkpad R61 because of the affordable price, build quality, and keyboard. When I tried it out at a local computer store, I was immediately hooked.

I purchased my R61 straight from Lenovo.com with a 10% off coupon for a total of $923 after tax. I even received $34 rebate from fatwallet.com.
